Solitude and silence are essential practices for living a spiritual life. But they are rarely easy to come by. A Getaway with God weekend offers an opportunity to remove ourselves from the demands and distractions of daily life for the valuable purpose of 'wasting time' with God.

I wonder how the idea of spending a weekend in God's presence sounds to you. It might seem more delightful than a cold drink on a hot summer's day. Or perhaps it seems confronting or even scary, prompting thoughts like, "Do I even dare to spend extended hours alone with God? What will I do with myself? What might I hear? A Getaway with God includes some training (giving you tracks to run on), guidance (available upon request) and time for fellowship (you may even make a new friend).

Especially for women

A Getaway with God is a women's retreat, held in a klooster (convent) in the rolling countryside of Limburg. You will experience a spacious 48 hours, a gift to yourself of rest and restoration, and an opportunity to draw close to God and to listen to what he has to say to you.

Why only for women? This initiative has begun in response to an invitation by Ed Haagsman, a Navigators staff who has led stilteweekends for men since 1996. Over the years many women have asked why there isn't a similar retreat available for them. Well, now there is! Ank Oosting and myself, Elizabeth de Smaele, will be your hosts and guides for the weekend.
